So Much Talk About Christmas in July... but really, check out this Candy Cane Lane cottage

For those of you fellow Seattle natives, Candy Cane Lane's a North Seattle tradition from our childhoods. Tucked just north of the UW campus this street of historic homes puts on a pretty dazzling display each Christmas season. We like to stroll through with the kids each year still.

A smart looking 2 bedroom cottage has just been listed. Great for someone seeking a charming in-city oasis with private back terrace. No Grouches need apply as this is one neighborhood where you really want to go Griswold with your decor.

Built in 1926 it offers 2 bedrooms and abuts Ravenna Park with it's great trails, grounds and fields. Asking price is $462,500. Let me know if you'd like me to take you through it. Click on blog title above to view the listing details and photos.

Reusing Old Materials

Lucky enough to have land with a little shed or old garage on it? Our region has so many great resources for purchasing, swapping and snagging old building materials-- you can take any sad shed and make it into a retreat or office with a little creative recycling.

In addition to roadside finds, flea markets and garage sales, UW Surplus, Second Use and Seattle Building Salvage are a few good spots to tour frequently. Let me know if you need directions to them-- I've found some nice materials and elements over the years.

Take a look at this cabin featured on Apartment Therapy and note how they use old wood, mouldings and other scrap to create a pretty good-looking space. Click on blog title above to read the story.
