The strange house that spite built

In an article in the Seattle Times from October 2000 titled “The Strange House that Spite Built” Bill Kosen writes,

“Take a $15,000 sofa, break it in half and what do you have? A worthless sofa, but also the width of possibly the first "skinny house" in Seattle. At least at the south end, where the house is 55 inches wide. The north end is 15 feet wide.

The one-bedroom house at 2022 24th Ave. E. in Montlake was built in 1925 by someone trying to get back at a neighbor for making an insultingly low offer for the tiny slice of land on which it sits. It worked; the house blocked the neighbors' open space and they moved. The so-called Spite House, all 860 square feet of it (including the basement), is doing fine, however, recently selling for $235,500.”

Back in 2000, the house sold the first day it was listed. Back on the market the home holds all its original charm and spite. It’s currently listed for $397,500. When compared to condos this 2 bedroom 1.75 bath home has a great deal going for it, plus you can live in a slice of Seattle history.
